Blanc replaces Ancelotti at PSG

Former France national team manager Laurent Blanc has signed a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

Laurent Blanc has taken over at PSG with Carlo Ancelotti having gone to Real Madrid. It is reported he was 8th on the manager wishlist for PSG. Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger topped that list with Fabio Capello, Guus Hiddink, Andre Villas-Boas and Frank Rijkaard following. They were all contacted about the job among others and all said 'Non' to the Ligue 1 champions. It just shows that there is so much more to football than money.

Many regard PSG as an impossible task as the board expect so much of the manager and because the players earn so much they are not motivated to perform as well in games. Blanc may have all the money he wants to spend on players but he still needs to attract players who are totally football orientated and not just money grabbers.

Ligue 1 is not known as the most competitive league in the world so players may be put off by that fact and that with PSG being so rich, it is pretty much a one horse race. Blanc will have to mould his team to get the best out of them instead of fielding 11 individuals.

Laurent didn't have the best time as manager of France, making little impact in Euro 2012. France have a very good squad so he should have better really but he will hope to have a more positive impact at PSG. I think that he needs to win the Ligue 1 title and possibly the French cup to keep his job next season. Of course, doing well in the Champions League can never be bad either! The chairman will probably expect at least a quarter-final run in the Champions League.
